Review of Ward B18 written by a family member

My mother (ex nurse for 40yrs) who has 2 brain tumour's (now recently untreatable) was rushed to Warrington hospital A&E with paramedics just over a week ago due to having 4 seizures 1 after the other & very low oxygen (GP recently did a home visit due to her back pain & said her medication was more poison to her brain & the tumour would kill her so said he would stop medication (anti convulsants ) which resulted in her admission. My mother is very confused most days now & doesn't retain much information & sadly the more recent tumour is progressing which is having an affect on a lot of things like her memory & behaviour etc as well as loosing her confidence as she is unable to do things for herself now so is also very frustrated at times as she has always been a very fit & strong independent person who's very sadly deteriating. I asked a member of staff a few days ago if they could shower my mum as she had been in hospital a week & not had 1 & unfortunately had an accident as a member of staff didn't get her to the toilet quick enough after being asked a while before from members of our family so mum was embarrassed about this. The staff member said if they had time & enough staff in the morning they would shower her,which they did but when my father & sister visited my mum.a member of staff (about 50/60 yrs of age in a light blue uniform,blonde hair in a ponytail ) said 'it's the 1st & last time I will be showering her after how she was with me in which my sister quietly explained to her that my mum has 2 malignant brain tumours etc which the staff should be aware of (which she wasn't) & she is unfortunately very different to the person she was since being diagnosed so she can't always help what she says etc. The staff member then went to the nursing station & was 'pointing towards my mum & family members' & clearly saying something to another staff so my sister went out to speak to her to explain again re my mums apparent behaviour & said it is basic care that you 'refusing ' to do again when my mum was a psychiatric nurse for 40 yrs & worked with very challenging patients daily who physically & verbally abused her but she continued to do the best at her job to care for the patients she was chose & paid to do so I feel very dissapointed to have to complain like this as I myself worked for the NHS for 15yrs & am finding it very difficult seeing what my mum is going through since the diagnosis as well as all of our family.We also really appreciate what the NHS have been able to offer & fortunatly there is also a lot of amazing professional within the hospitals where my mum has received great treatment & care but I really feel this needs raising as my mum & other patients in her bay were all very confused etc so therefore very vulnerable & unable to speak up etc for themselves.

Review of Ward A9 written by a family member

My Dad, Ernest Bate, spent a month on ward A9 and the care he received was excellent. He was 94 at the time (he came home the day before his 95th birthday). The staff were extremely professional, skilled, kind and compassionate. It was sometimes hard to find out what was happening with Dad, what the plan was for his discharge and what was going to happen about the kidney tumour that was discovered (we still aren't clear apart from he will be treated as an outpatient). However, ward managers Carol Jones & Stacey (sorry don't know her surname) really showed a great deal of patience when answering my multiple questions. I always felt Dad was in safe hands when they were on duty. Unfortunately when he was moved to ward A3 early on in his stay at the hospital, his dentures were accidentally thrown out. This has lead to a lot of problems with eating and continues to be a problem (dentist appointment made for early July). On behalf of Dad and all the family, we all want to say a very big thank you for the excellent care he received and the patience shown when he had a water infection and thought Stacey was trying to poison him and other staff were torturing him! Thank you.

Review of Ophthalmics Warrington written by a patient

The staff on ophalmics day surgery unit were second to none. Warrington is not where I live but chose to travel there for care due to considerable shorter waiting lists and I'm glad I did. Having only been seen at the end of march the surgery was arranged for the end of may which I think is incredible these days. My local hospital in a nearby town cannot even schedule initial appointments for months and that's even before surgery. On the day of surgery the staff were welcoming and friendly. Everything was efficient. Nothing was any trouble. You were informed of what was happening and when. We were offered refreshments and made comfortable. The surgeon was friendly and the theatre team were once again second to none. There is nothing I could fault from start to finish. From start to finish I was in and had my surgery and discharged within 2 hours. In an era of lack of money within the NHS and times when all we hear is negative reports of service it was so refreshing to see a team who from start to finish, from the unit to theatre and back again NHS staff who showed the true values of what the NHS and nursing is all about... The care of the patient. Thank you so much!

Fresh sheets every morning Water refilled without asking Friendly staff Sometimes left connected to an empty drip for a while Not always told how my temperature or blood pressure is looking I once woke up with a thermometer in my ear

The staff were excellent, they cared, were very friendly, thoughtful, efficient and professional. My constructive suggestion would be, that by providing the NHS with more funds, these brilliant members of staff could be given realistic pay rises, as long as efficiency was not to decrease.

Review of Ophthalmic Day Surgery Warrington written by a patient

The whole experience was faultless, the staff from first reception to nursing and final surgery was professional and caring. Each stage was fully explained ( not hurried ) and the staff were totally reassuring both in the knowledge and consideration shown. The entire hospital was spotlessly clean. The post op appointment the following morning was on time with the same caring professional expert treatment from all staff. Could I offer my personal thanks to the Surgeon M. Hovan and all her teem for their wonderful, expert care. They are all a credit to the Hospital and their Profession. M. Johnson

All the staff on B12 could not have done more to towards making the death of my aunt as pain free and dignified as possible both for my aunt and the family. The way they cared for her and us , was faultless. They always had time for us in on a very demanding ward. I am so glad we were allocated to this ward Thank you everyone. Linda
